Severe nausea / vomiting disorders
Severe nausea/vomiting disorders (cyclic vomiting, gastroparesis, hyperemesis, recurrent regurgitation) create dental risks: (1) ASPIRATION/choking risk from active nausea/vomiting and poor swallow control, (2) dental EROSION from intrinsic acid exposure (palatal surfaces), (3) dehydration/electrolyte issues → syncope risk and poor tolerance of long visits, (4) higher risk with sedation/GA (loss of protective reflexes). RCS: intrinsic gastric acid from vomiting causes significant palatal erosion. ADA: don't brush immediately after vomiting; rinse first.
