Parkinson's disease
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by bradykinesia, rigidity, tremor, and postural instability. Dental relevance: (1) motor fluctuations affect cooperation and appointment timing, (2) dysphagia/aspiration risk during dental procedures, (3) drooling and/or xerostomia affecting oral health, (4) significant drug interactions with levodopa, COMT inhibitors (entacapone), and MAO-B inhibitors (selegiline) — especially with epinephrine-containing LA, and (5) dopamine-blocking antiemetics can worsen parkinsonism.
