Leukemia/lymphoma (active treatment)
Leukemia/lymphoma patients may have: neutropenia (high infection risk), thrombocytopenia (bleeding risk), mucositis/xerostomia and poor oral healing from therapy, indwelling lines, and complex medications (steroids, immunotherapy, antimicrobials). Dental care must be planned around the PHASE of antineoplastic therapy: (1) BEFORE chemo/HSCT/CAR-T = best time for stabilization, (2) DURING active therapy = defer elective; urgent care only with coordination, (3) AFTER therapy/remission = resume when counts recover and oncologist clears.
