Active tuberculosis
ACTIVE (infectious) pulmonary/laryngeal TB: AIRBORNE transmission risk; routine dental clinics should NOT provide elective care; urgent care only in properly equipped settings (AIIR). LATENT TB (LTBI): NOT infectious; dental care is routine; key issues are drug interactions with TB preventive therapy (rifamycins/isoniazid). ADA: airborne infection isolation room for urgent dental treatment in suspected/confirmed infectious TB. CDC: airborne precautions for presumed/confirmed infectious TB. Key principle: ACTIVE = defer + isolate; LATENT = routine care + medication interaction check.
