Ahmar Iftikhar joins Dentalverse as Head of Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety
A PharmD with programme experience across WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank and Médecins du Monde now leads review of the medicines content in Dentalverse.
Dentalverse has appointed Ahmar Iftikhar as Head of Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety. The role has one job: the accuracy of the medicines content in the app.
Why the role exists
Dentalverse carries 27 drug monographs and 11 local anaesthetic profiles — dosing, contraindications, pregnancy and lactation guidance, renal and hepatic adjustment. Students read that material before they treat someone.
Content like that is worth exactly as much as the process behind it. Until now that process was internal review against published sources. It now has a named person whose responsibility it is.
Background
Ahmar Iftikhar is a PharmD and a global health and pharmaceutical systems consultant. His work covers medicine supply chains, antimicrobial resistance evidence synthesis, and evidence-based medicine use in low-resource settings.
He has worked on donor-funded health programmes with WHO, UNICEF, GIZ, the World Bank, the Gates Foundation, MERF and Médecins du Monde, on pharmaceutical systems assessments, literature reviews, and medicines policy research.
The evidence-synthesis background is the part that matters here. Keeping a drug reference correct is mostly the discipline of tracing every statement back to a current, citable source — and going back to it when the source changes.
What this changes
- The drug and anaesthesia references now have a named reviewer with a pharmacy qualification.
- Proposed corrections go to him before they reach the app, rather than being applied on our own judgement.
- Where published guidance genuinely disagrees, we intend to say so plainly rather than quietly picking one number.
What does not change: Dentalverse is educational. It is not medical or dental advice, and it does not replace your supervisor, your faculty, or the protocols in force where you train. If the app and the person supervising you disagree, follow your supervisor, then ask why.
